THE CHALLENGE

Being diagnosed with cancer can be scary and devastating to both patients and their families. Parkview recognized that to provide comfort to patients, it needed to re-invent the model of care when adding radiation and medical oncology services to their main campus.

OUR SOLUTION

Through a series of focus groups, design vision and guiding principles were established to inform the interior design. A grand three-story interior garden provides a place of respite and retreat. Infusion spaces overlook the garden providing patients choices in where they receive their treatment; private rooms, semi private bays and centrally located open bays. Celebration rooms located within the infusion suite allow patients to celebrate their successes. A gift shop, wig boutique, cafe, consultation library and survivorship suite provide additional resources within the facility.

THE RESULT

The Parkview Cancer Institute achieved its visioning goals of providing hope and encouragement to its visitors while allowing patients to receive coordinated care from multiple specialists in one facility. One visitor shared with staff that Parkview is “taking the fear out of cancer.”
